CARBON FOOTPRINT TOOL FOR MUNICIPAL PLANNING
In accordance with Law 7/2021, of May 20, on climate change and energy transition, territorial and urban planning and management, as well as interventions in the urban environment, building and transport infrastructures, must integrate progressive adaptation and resilience in the face of climate change. The assessment of the potential effects that planning can exert on the phenomenon of climate change is, moreover, mandatory, in accordance with Law 21/2013, of December 9, on environmental assessment. In this sense, the measurement of the potential carbon footprint that planning instruments can cause is recognized as a very useful tool to reduce the effects on climate change.
Therefore, a carbon footprint calculator for urban planning, developed by Alexandra Delgado Jiménez, Roberto Álvarez Fernández and Fernando Beltrán Cilleruelo of the Nebrija University, is available to citizens, administrations and companies, based on the need for a specific tool for the territorial reality of Madrid.
This tool can be accessed at the website of the Community of Madrid.
