FROM THE RIGHT TO THE CITY TO THE CHALLENGE OF THE SUSTAINABLE AND SMART CITY: THE SUSTAINABLE CITY AT THE SERVICE OF THE RIGHT TO THE CITY AND THE SMART CITY AT THE SERVICE OF THE SUSTAINABLE CITY

The right to the city is analyzed as a proposal that places the citizen as the main element of the city he/she has built and that constitutes one of the main human contributions to society. The citizen must become the backbone of all urban policies, which constitutes a city of the citizens. For several decades there have been bets for a sustainable city and more recently for a smart city. The opportunity of these strategies to enhance or not the right to the city and constitute, for example, a guarantor of access to a healthy urban environment, a fundamental right, is assessed.
