The Gijón pavilion at the Trade Fair is dedicated to projects that aim to generate friendlier and more natural spaces.
The mayoress of Gijón, Ana González, has appealed this Thursday to generate friendly spaces in cities and make them environmentally, socially and economically sustainable to fight against the climate emergency. González made these statements during the presentation of the Gijón City Hall pavilion at this year's International Trade Fair of Asturias (Fidma), which houses the exhibition Gijón Naturally dedicated to the renaturalization of the council.
Gonzalez said that Gijon joins the fight against climate change and the work of the Administration is to renaturalize and generate more friendly spaces to reconquer the street for people.
The pavilion exhibition offers an interactive tour that provides answers to why, how and where it is necessary to renaturalize the city and shows the social, economic and environmental benefits of applying nature-based solutions to achieve healthier urban spaces.
During the visit, structured in seven areas, attendees will have the opportunity to feel like protagonists of the urban naturalization plan of Gijón through an interactive tour where they can see, touch and feel the nature-based solutions of the six environmental projects implemented or being implemented by the city council.
The tour begins by explaining the reason for these initiatives to move on to an area with the seven evidences of the climate crisis that are suffered daily and require an adaptation of the city. A third exhibition area highlights the work being done to implement nature-based solutions and a fourth area offers an interactive tour of a river with the timeline of the city's energy transformation.
The pavilion houses an area for workshops and activities and another area describing Gijón's Urban Naturalization Plan and detailing renaturation projects such as the El Molinón avenue, the Piles and Peñafrancia rivers and the Low Emission Zone (ZBE) of La Calzada. On the outside, there is an artistic recreation of different urban architectural elements of Gijón together with other natural ones, reports Efe.
